Kristina Hagström Sculptor – Curriculum Vitae and Biography
Stone has always fascinated me from being a young child, growing up in Sweden. I spent a lot of time outdoors with a fascination for stone and ice. Today, nature remains a great resource for my work and allows me to access and flow my creativity.
Each piece I create exposes a response to a feeling or reveals the essence of a character in a particular moment, or period of time. Masks and heads are common themes, and I also explores form and space in my more abstract pieces. I am intrigued by the meanings in a sculpture that are not immediately obvious and to explore how these meanings are exposed and where they exist - in the object, is it in the mind of the artist or in the minds of the spectators? My intention is to be honest and direct, and my sculptural style is free and expressive. I love that a sculpture is tangible, you can feel it, touch it, smell it. I am hoping that my art is touching the viewer.
I am a British citizen and moved to the UK 16 years ago where I now live and work. My move followed16 intense years in a corporate career that I pursued after being denied the chance to go to art school as a young woman, I finally fulfilled my desire to study sculpture and graduated with an MA in Visual Art Sculpture from West Dean College with Distinction. I have also studied psychology, graduating from Middlesex University London in 2010 and economics, graduating with a BSc in Economics and business administration from the University of Linköping Sweden in 1988.
