Jennie Phillips
I started working with clay from an early age, mostly handbuilding pots but later in my teens working on the potter’s wheel. I relish the feel of the clay and the endless possibilities it offers for creating forms and textures.
It was not until I retired from teaching that I decided to take up sculpture. My motivation comes from numerous sources but largely from a love of animals and also from a fascination of movement, posture and line in the human form. My aim is to capture a moment that expresses the character, spirit and vitality of my subject.
I am largely self taught but have learnt to cast my own work using bronze, marble and iron resin at evening and day classes.
