I am inspired by simple things.

The human form and the ability of people to interpret body language or complex facial expressions conveying a wide variety of emotions non-verbally, even frozen in a moment.

The beauty of abstract shapes in cold metal, the strength of steel and particularly the negative space allowing light through, and the realization that despite its strength, it too is vulnerable to weathering and age.

I sculpt in clay or steel – each material having different properties, limitations and foibles, maintaining the challenge of crafting the works as I imagine them… and yet so often I find pieces appear with little planning on my part, they evolve from the material on their own.

I continue to learn and improve my skills through adult education institutions, and hope to develop my ideas further.
